A Cheltenham High School transformer box caught fire at approximately 12:00pm today, according to an Emergency Alerts of Southeastern Pennsylvania post.
The following units have been dispatched:
ENGINE 1, ENGINE 1-1, LADDER 1, ENGINE 2, SQUAD 3, SNORKEL 82, QUINT 99, ENGINE 300-2
Cheltenham School District posted the following:
At 12:04 p.m., the high school experienced a power surge, and at 12:08 p.m., the fire alarm went off.
The building was safely evacuated and all students are accounted for. A number of fire companies responded and after inspection, discovered that a small motor on a ventilation duct had caught fire. Power has been shut on the unit.
The fire companies that responded are searching the building to determine whether any additional issues or concerns exist. As a result, we are dismissing Cheltenham High School at 1:30 p.m. All afterschool activities for this evening are canceled as well.
