Cheltenham grad is the grandfather of former Phillie Chase Utley’s sons

Allen Cooper, a 1962 graduate of Cheltenham High School, is the father of Jennifer Cooper, who married Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley in 2007.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, Allen lived on Hilldale Road in the Melrose Park section of the Township. He was an All-Suburban One end in football and played on the 1961 Panthers football team with sophomore star running back Reggie Jackson.

After Allen graduated college, he relocated to San Francisco and got married. The union produced Jennifer, who went to college at UCLA where she was an Art/Dance major. She was introduced to Utley, a UCLA grad, in 2000 by former Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver Freddie Mitchell, a former baseball teammate of Utley.

Today Chase and Jennifer have two boys named Max and Ben. For a clip of the family on an episode of “Chic Mama Carpool”, you can watch below:

Fun Fact #1: When they first started dating, Allen asked Chase how he would support his daughter if he didn’t make it in baseball.

Fun Fact #2: Founded in 1883, the Philadelphia Phillies are the longest, continuous, one name, one city franchise in all of sports. For more details, you can click here.
