Cheltenham girls’ track & field captures district title | Lower Moreland, Abington, Springfield, Jenkintown well represented at Championships

The Cheltenham High School girls’ track and field team took home its first district title in five years at the District 1 Championships at Coatesville High School over the weekend.

The team posted 44 points with sophomore Amirah Nesmith winning the 100M (11.84) and long jump (18-05.75). The 4x100M relay of Kendall Nelson, Kira Murray, Michelle Korsah, and Nesmith won in 47.45, which was the top time in Pennsylvania this season. Korsah finished second in the 100M hurdles (14.40).


Lower Moreland High School saw senior Amelia Ogawa place third in the 3200 with a 10:56, which broke her own school record. Freshman Annie Moniz placed 9th in the 800 with a personal best 2:16 and placed 9th in the 1600. Junior Kennedy Durand placed 11th overall with a 2:17 in the 800, a personal best. The 4×400 team of Kayla Barnette, Moniz, Ogawa, and Durand ran a 4:02 for a new school record.

On the boys’ side, Abington’s Luke Coleman took bronze with a 48.34 in the 400 meters and Springfield’s Carlo Johnson took sixth with a 49.07.

Cheltenham’s Jordan Sowell took silver in the triple jump for the second straight season with a 47 feet, 5.75 inches.

Jenkintown’s John Byler took second in the 3200 with a 9:43.63.
