Press Release:
On Monday, October 19th at 7:00pm, the Cheltenham Area Branch of the NAACP will host a non-partisan community forum with candidates running for Pennsylvania House and Senate. The forum will take place at Glenside Hall, 185 South Keswick Avenue, Glenside, PA.
“We’ve seen as recently as two weeks ago with the hateful graffiti in Abington, how hatred and racism can divide a community. But the fight for equity can also bring communities together,” said Will Taylor, PhD., President, Cheltenham Branch NAACP. “In these difficult moments, it is important to know exactly how our candidates for political office will work to address educational, social and economic equality in our region.”
Confirmed attendees include:
Pennsylvania State Senate District 4 Candidates: Art Haywood (D) and Todd Johnson (R). District 4 serves parts of Philadelphia, Abington, Cheltenham, Springfield, Jenkintown and Rockledge.
House District 154 Candidates Stephanie Berardi (Progress for PA Party) and Napoleon Nelson (D). District 154 serves parts of Cheltenham, Jenkintown and Springfield.
The forum, co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters, will be moderated by Armond James, educator and author and a Lindback Award recipient for Distinguished Teaching. Doors open for the forum at 6:30pm and audience members will have the opportunity to ask the candidates questions.
The Cheltenham Area Branch of the NAACP was officially established in 1999 to address the issues faced by African Americans in the area and to ensure that the values of the national NAACP were reflected in the local context.
