Cases of Coronavirus rising over last seven days in Montgomery County. Hospitalizations have dipped in recent days

As of January 8th, Montgomery County reports that 10,973 have received the first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. This is up from the 7,699 that was reported on January 3rd. Of the 10,973, 251 have received the second dose.

Since our last report on January 5th (data through January 4th), Montgomery County reports that there have been 1,823 new cases of Coronavirus in the county (see daily numbers in graph below). This brings the total number of cases countywide since the start of the pandemic to 36,277.

The number of cases from the most recent 14 days has decreased by 497 versus the previous 14 days. Cases from the most recent seven days have increased by 308 versus the previous seven days.

As of January 4th, there were 445 patients in Montgomery County hospitals due to Coronavirus. As of January 8th that has dropped to 385. There are currently 39 patients requiring a ventilator (down from 50 on January 4th).

There have been 36 deaths due to Coronavirus reported between January 5th and January 8th. This brings the total number of deaths countywide since the start of the pandemic is 1,060.

The 14-day PCR positivity rate is 11.1% as of January 7th. This is up from 10.55% as of December 26th. Having this number at 5% or under is considered suppression of the virus.

  • Abington is at 2,622 cases, which is 127 more than since January 4th. There have been 95 deaths, which is seven more than since January 4th
  • Cheltenham is 1,682 cases, which is 48 more than since January 4th. There have been 65 deaths
  • Jenkintown is at 146 cases, which is two more than since January 4th. There has been one death
  • Springfield is at 1,168 cases, which is 38 more than since January 4th. There have been 92 deaths, which is one more than since January 4th
  • Rockledge is at 140 cases, which is four more since January 4th. There has been one death
