Bryan Cohen: A Huntingdon Valley native, Abington Friends grad, gold medalist and Hall of Famer

Bryan Cohen, a Huntingdon Valley native and a 2008 graduate of Abington Friends School, is a gold medal winner with Team USA in the 2009 Maccabiah Games.

A 2012 graduate of Bucknell University, his 353 points as a freshman in 2008–09 were the fourth-most by a freshman in the school’s history. He was named Patriot League Defensive Player of Year in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and was the only player in league history to win the award three times. He was the seventh in any NCAA Division I conference to win a defensive MVP award three times.

Cohen, who has dual U.S.–Israeli citizenship, played from 2012–14 for Maccabi Haifa in the Israeli Basketball Premier League.

He was inducted into the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2021 and said the achievement was “surreal” because of his age (he was 32 at the time).

“That I got inducted at such a young age means a lot,” he told The Philadelphia Jewish Exponent.
