Teodora Kopyn, a Basilian sister from Ukraine, was recently featured by GlobalSistersReport.org for her humanitarian work for the Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province in Jenkintown.
A native of western Ukraine, Kopyn arrived in the U.S. in 2013. Unlike many of the other visiting sisters who return to Ukraine after a period of service, Kopyn stayed to help Philadelphians in need.
Kopyn manages a food pantry serving some 100 households per week, a relief program that provides clothing and other essentials to Ukrainian refugees and migrants from all over the world, and she also ministers in Kensington.
“They’re not addicts; they’re people,” she said. “Being with those people, you know you’re not just giving to them; you’re receiving a lot from them: peace, blessings, smiles.”
