Baseball legend Reggie Jackson’s former home in Wyncote to be demolished this month

Cheltenham Township published a letter today informing local residents that 149 Greenwood Avenue in Wyncote, the childhood home of Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, will soon be demolished.

“We will be keeping everything wet down to keep dust under control. All construction and demolition debris will be in containers by days end,” Trego Excavating said in the letter, which was dated March 21. “If you have any other questions regarding this demolition please contact the Township.”

The tentative demolition schedule is below:

The proposed demolition of the property went through a final approval with Board of Commissioners in July 2024. Plans for the demolition have been in the works since 2022.

The owner of the property, which doubled as the Jackson family’s tailor/dry cleaning business, intends to replace the structure with a parking lot. Plans to preserve the building’s historicity include a commemorative plaque on the site and a portion of one wall relocated to a nearby building.
