Arcadia University – The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Of Service

Activities are underway at Arcadia University in celebration of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther Day Jr. Day Of Service.

“Arcadia University students, in conjunction with the University’s Community and Civic Engagement Center, [are hosting]…the annual MLK Day of Service Repurposing, eWaste, and Shredding event on Monday, January 21, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Murphy Hall as a way to honor the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr.,” according to a statement from Arcadia University.

“This Repurposing, eWaste, and Shredding event is free to the community and is a great opportunity for community members looking to properly and securely dispose of eWaste electronic or metal items (with the exception of televisions and CRT monitors),” the statement continued.  “611 Metals Recycling will be collecting recyclables on site.  Additionally, ShredIt will provide a maximum security shredding service for documents that contain sensitive information.”

Arcadia University is encouraging people throughout the area to join in this event.

“Members of the community are asked to bring items to be donated to a number local non-profit organizations, as well as eWaste to be ethically recycled, and paper to be shredded, and to be properly disposed of,” according to the statement from Arcadia University.  “Volunteers will help to unload and sort through the items to be given to each organization.  The public is invited to donate gently used items to fulfill the wish lists of local nonprofit organizations, including Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties, New Life, VeteransMC, and ThrowBack thrift stores, Baby Bureau, Cradles to Crayons, Salvation Army, Women’s Humane Society, and Philadelphia Reads.  Items such as clothing, working electronics, housewares, school supplies, new or gently used shoes, prom dresses, and pet supplies are all welcomed donations.”
