Arcadia names new basketball coach

The Reading Eagle reports that Albright University’s loss is Arcadia’s gain. Adam Van Zelst has accepted the job of head coach for Arcadia’s men’s basketball program.

For the Eagle, reporter Richard Scarcella writes:

“I’m just ecstatic and excited,” he said. “This is a destination job for me. I never thought I’d get back home. I haven’t lived at home (Fairless Hills) since high school. This felt like the perfect fit. The timing was right.”

Van Zelst succeeds Justin Scott, who posted a 104-87 record in seven seasons before he accepted a job as assistant coach at St. Joseph’s. Scott guided the Knights to a 23-6 record last season, the MAC Commonwealth championship and the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Van Zelst both played for and coached the Albright Lions, starting in 2006. As assistant coach under Rick Ferry, Albright went 119-90 and reached the MAC Commonwealth final in 2017 and ’18.
