Maurice Scott, a 2017 graduate of Arcadia University, is training for the 2028 Olympic Games in beach sprint rowing. He is also the focus of NBC Sports Philadelphia‘s new four-part series, “FORGED”.

“FORGED is more than a rowing docu-series—it’s the story of a kid from Philadelphia who found purpose through rowing and refused to let adversity define his future,” Scott said in a post. “Every setback, every lesson, and every victory has helped forge the person I am today. My hope is that this series reminds someone that where you begin doesn’t determine where you can go.”

Last week, Scott was crowned U.S. National Champion for the fourth consecutive year. In addition to being a Philadelphia City Champion for rowing, Scott has accumulated more than ten total championships. He’s also honored in the “Philadelphia Rowing: Breaking Barriers” display located at the Independence Seaport Museum.

The Philadelphia native began rowing competitively in 2010 with Philadelphia City Rowing, a nonprofit program created to open access to the sport for inner-city youth. He was later recruited to the U.S. Naval Academy rowing team.

During his time in Wyncote, he was awarded a full scholarship to attend the University of New South Wales in Australia, where he competed at the Australian University Games and other major Australian regattas. He brought home multiple medals, according to RowInfluencers. 

Scott is currently a U.S. Rowing Commentator and is the founder and CEO of Rowfluencers, LLC. He also serves as the co-founder and board member of Unity Boat Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving youth, athletes with disabilities and veterans across Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.
