Amtrak recently released details of its Airo trains, which are funded in part by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
In August, the DoT awarded over $233 million to 11 projects in 8 states to improve and modernize the country’s rail service.
“From Amtrak on the East and West Coasts to commuter rail in cities across the country, Americans rely on intercity passenger rail to travel, get to work, and visit loved ones,” Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Transportation Secretary, said. “The Partnership Program improves upon this safe, affordable, and environmentally-friendly mode of transportation and brings us closer to delivering the world-class passenger service Americans deserve.”

According to The Washington Post, Amtrak’s current fleet of trains is 50 years old.
“As we invest in the future, Amtrak is leading the way with a new era of rail,” Amtrak President Roger Harris said in a statement. “Our new trains will transform the Amtrak experience with significant environmental benefits, a progressive design and world-class amenities.”
Amtrak said its future trains, to be unveiled in 2026, will include panoramic windows, speeds of up to 125 miles per hour, self-service food options, wayfinding with a color-coded system, enhanced comfort with spacious seating, enhanced lighting, improved technology and a greener impact.
According to FOX 29, the new trains are more fuel efficient and produce 90% less particulate emissions in diesel operations.
“The new trains are part of a ‘larger transformation’ Amtrak said will ‘revolutionize’ its experience, including new Acela trains, major infrastructure projects, service expansion, station upgrades, modernization efforts and improved track capacity along the Northeast Corridor,” FOX 29 wrote.
