American Red Cross to host ‘Battle of the Badges’ blood drive on June 6

The American Red Cross will host the annual Battle of the Badges blood drive on Tuesday, June 6 from 7:00am to 5:00pm at the Norristown Recreation Center, 340 Harding Blvd.

Norristown police and fire departments will take on the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to see which outfit can accrue the most donations. Donors can participate by signing up in favor of either the local or county agencies.

All donors will receive a Battle of the Badges T-shirt and a $10 electronic gift card. Donors are automatically entered for a chance to win a backyard theater package, which includes a projector, screen, smokeless firepit, and more.

The municipal first responder agencies have historically won the battle. The Norristown Fire Department currently has 30 firefighters, the Norristown Police Department has 64 sworn officers and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has 95 deputies, according to The Reporter.

“The Norristown Police and Fire departments have enjoyed a six-year winning streak, which we do not expect to relinquish this year,” Norristown Police Cpt. Michael Bishop said in a statement. “Each pint of blood that is donated can save the lives of three people, and less than an hour of your time is asked to be part of this life saving annual event.”
