Ambler man with a knife fatally shot by police, Montco detectives investigating

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announced today an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the evening of Saturday, April 26 in Ambler.

According to the report, the incident began with a 911 call at 7:34pm for a suspicious person. Ambler police arrived at Forrest Avenue and School Street where they encountered Robert Aguilar Cholula, 43, of Ambler, who was wielding a large, butcher-style knife.

Officers issued commands to drop the knife. Cholula did not comply, and as the subject ran toward the officers, an officer fired a taser, which did not stop him. A second officer fired a shot which struck Cholula. He was transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital, where he later died.

Montgomery County detectives responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation into the shooting, the DA said.
