Abington’s Janice Lufkin, decorated Navy nurse, former head nurse at Presbyterian Hospital, & award-winning Red Cross volunteer, has died at 81

Janice Lufkin, 81, of Abington, a decorated Navy nurse, former head nurse of the cardiac care unit at Presbyterian Hospital, and an award-winning American Red Cross volunteer, died on Saturday, May 13, of heart failure at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

She was a longtime member of Abington Presbyterian Church, served as parish nurse, and was ordained as an elder in 1998. Janice returned to her childhood home in Abington in retirement and became an active volunteer with the American Red Cross’ Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter. Her contributions were recognized by the Chapter with a Commemorative Award in 2008.

She moved with her family to Abington when she was 12 and graduated from Abington Senior High School in 1959.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 20, at Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road in Abington. A reception is to follow. Interment and military honors are to be later at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
