Abington Township to host 2027 proposed budget meeting on Nov. 10, public hearing regarding the township’s code of ordinances on Nov. 12

The Abington Township Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, November 10, to present and authorize advertisement of the Fiscal Year 2027 Proposed Township Budget.

The proposed budget will be available for public review on Wednesday, November 11 on the township’s website. Final adoption of the budget will take place at the regular Board of Commissioners meeting on December 10.

More details about Tuesday’s meeting can be found here.

In related news, the board will also hold a public hearing on Thursday, November 12, to consider enactment of an ordinance amending the code of ordinances by amending and updating the township’s zoning map.

The draft ordinance and map can be viewed here.

Ward 6 Commissioner Jeffrey Browne clarified the purpose of the meeting in a post:

These zoning changes will fix inconsistencies with properties that were zoned incorrectly. For instance there are some properties that have current zoning of a park, or a school. This was in error. This ordinance seeks to remedy these inconsistencies. We discussed this as a board at a recent meeting and one of the questions I asked was if an owner needs to be worried about tax implications or any negative financial effects of this change and the answer given was “no”. This ordinance is designed to fix what can be summed up as a clerical error and may actually help homeowners and homebuyers if there was a question or discrepancies that came up in the buying/selling process. For Ward 6 residents, we only had a couple of properties whose zoning needs to be addressed, and all affected residents should have gotten notice from the Township. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out to me!
