State Treasurer and GOP challenger Stacy Garrity and Governor Josh Shapiro held their first and only scheduled public debate on Wednesday, October 7, at the ABC27 studio in Harrisburg.
Spotlight PA published a rundown of the evening, stating that the debate “revealed little about the candidates that they haven’t already publicly taken a position on”. Their analysis of debate takeaways are categorized as follows: “Differences on skill games, education, and spending”, “Affordability”, “Trump, Israel, and presidential aspirations”, and “Other issues”.
ABC27 has launched an unofficial poll to determine who the audience believes won the debate. The results are expected in a few days.

In related news, Ken Krawchuk, an Abington Township resident and former chairman of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania, announced his campaign for Governor of Pennsylvania during a campaign rally on Saturday, May 16.
The Libertarian Party candidate previously ran for the governorship in 1998, 2002 and 2018. He has also campaigned for the Pennsylvania state House, U.S. House and an Abington Township Commissioner seat.
From his campaign website:
More than half our kids can’t read at grade level. And two-thirds can’t do math at grade level. The solution? Privatize the public schools!
Property tax is the worst tax imaginable. But the bulk of it can be eliminated by privatizing the public schools.
Speaking of taxes, the cost of government in Pennsylvania has been rising at more than three times the rate of inflation for over 50 years. The solution? Veto all tax increases and pork barrel spending.
Libertarian Ken Krawchuk is the only gubernatorial candidate who has a solid plan to improve education and cut taxes, including the much-hated property tax.
You can read Krawchuk’s responses to FOX43’s Candidate Questionnaire here.
According to a Quinnipiac University poll released yesterday, 59 percent of likely voters support Shapiro, 34 percent support Garrity, 2 percent support Krawchuk, and 5 percent did not choose a candidate.
