Abington Township Awarded $715,000 for Trail Project

Montgomery County has been awarded funds by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) through its Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program. The funds must be used for capital projects and other activities related to alternative types of transportation, such as running, walking and bicycling. They chose two trail projects, one being in Abington Township and the other in Lower Merion Township.

Abington Township received $715,000, to create a continuous trail that links Jenkintown Borough to Rockledge Borough and the Pennypack Trail. With these funds, current trails will be fixed and upgraded, and new trails will be developed. Throughout the trail, will be several landmarks along the way such as The Abington Arts Center, Abington Friends School, Alverthorpe Park, Manor College and the Huntingdon Pike Commercial Corridor. This Jenkintown to Pennypack Trail was included in the 2016 Abington Township Bicycle Master Plan. In addition to Abington Twp, Lower Merion Township was awarded funds in total of $534,000 for the Parkside-Cynwyd Trail.
