Abington Township addresses speculation that Alverthorpe Park may be opened to non-residents

Abington will not be lifting Alverthorpe Park’s restrictions to non-residents of the Township, according to a statement published by Board of Commissioners president Thomas Hecker:

Alverthorpe Park is restricted to Township residents and their guests only. There is speculation that a recommendation to allow access to Alverthorpe Park to non-residents will be approved by the Board of Commissioners. This Township Board of Commissioners will not be changing that restriction.


The park is located along Jenkintown Road and Forrest Avenue in Jenkintown. According to the Township’s website, “Visitors will be required to show proof of residency to be admitted into the Park. Non-resident visitors must be a guest of a resident to be allowed entry.”

In related matters, the Abington Township Planning Commission cancelled its August 22 meeting due to “an immediate and unavoidable matter” from the applicant from 1209 Rydal Road.
