Abington student to be criminally charged for false school shooting threat

The Abington Township Police Department announced today that an Abington Middle School student will be criminally charged for making a false threat about the school.

According to police, an Abington student reported that a SnapChat message being passed around by students stated that there would be a school shooting on November 1. The sender of the message later admitted that the threat was intended to be a prank.

The student’s mother contacted Abington Police, but not before the message had been passed around to numerous students in the school. The Abington Middle School School Resource Officer conducted an immediate investigation. The sender of the message was identified as a friend of original reporting student. The juvenile sender admitted to sending the threat, which he intended to be a prank. Police confirmed that this juvenile has no access to weapons, and there is no risk to the school or any students. The specific circumstances of every offense is different. The police consider all circumstances when determining the appropriate course of action. The juvenile in this case will be criminally charged.
