David M. Mwaria, a Willow Grove native and a senior at Abington Senior High School, has received the National Merit University of Texas at Dallas College Scholarship.

His probable career field is electrical engineering, according to the announcement.

Students were able to enter the program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Roughly 2,900 winners were selected from a national pool, which was narrowed to 16,000 semi-finalists, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

A second group of around 3,000 winners will be announced in July. Mwario was named a semifinalist in September.
