Abington senior Luis Ramos-McMahon named Student of the Month

Abington senior Luis Ramos-McMahon has been named the February 2023 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology in Willow Grove for his work in the Welding Technology program. Ten students each year are selected for the honor.

Luis has been assisting first-year students with their welds, and he has attained industry-standard certifications through his programs, such as Careersafe OSHA 10-Hour training and S/P2 Welding Safety Training.

Luis has also been featured by CBS3 for their National Hispanic Heritage Month spotlight and was recognized at both Eastern and Abington Senior High School for this honor.

“Luis loves to weld, and is determined and hard-working,” Meghan Cicchino, Eastern’s Welding Technology Instructor, said. “He is looking forward to building his skills while on the job. I am confident that he will be a success and am so happy to have the opportunity to watch him accomplish so much in his senior year.”

After graduation he plans to join a union and begin his career. At Abington Senior High School’s Career Fair, he met representatives from three Philadelphia-based unions and has completed several job interviews, resulting in two current offers. He is still in the process of making a final decision.
