Abington police share footage from red light violations, school bus violations | ‘Run Into Spring’ 5K set for April 19

The Abington Township Police Department shared footage from recent red light violations and school bus violations.

Red light violations

The department said the red light “near misses” were captured by their red light cameras.

“While no crashes occurred, each moment highlights how quickly a routine drive can turn dangerous when a red light is ignored,” police said in a post. “Traffic signals exist to keep intersections safe for everyone, drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. While officers do their best to enforce traffic laws, they can’t be at every intersection at all times. Red light cameras are one of the tools that help promote safer driving and accountability.”

School bus violations

The department said that “more than 3,800 violations” involving school buses have been recorded since Abington launched the BusPatrol program last year.

“Remember—passing a stopped school bus equipped with an automated side stop signal arm enforcement system is a $300 violation with no points on your license. This system is in place to help protect children as they get on and off the bus each day,” the post said. “By staying alert and stopping for school buses, we can all play a part in keeping our children safe.”
