Abington police sergeant, officers receive ‘Highway Wings’ for Philadelphia Highway Patrol Police Motorcycle Training graduation

The Abington Township Police Department announced that Sergeant Anthony Space and officers Michael Coughlin and James Pfau recently graduated from the Philadelphia Highway Patrol Police Motorcycle Training.

The 80-hour training, also known as “Wheel School,” was established in the early 1950s and is held at Highway Patrol Headquarters in Philadelphia. Motor officers who meet the qualification and certification requirements earn a unique set of Highway Wings, typically displayed on the right breast of a uniform.

According to the department, Sergeant Space was also honored with the B-Lo perfect score award in honor of officer Brian Lorenzo, a Philadelphia officer who was killed in 2012 when his department motorcycle was struck head-on by a drunk driver.
