The Abington Township Police Department stated that at approximately 12:30am on October 16 150-200 vehicles convened at the parking lot of the Willow Grove Park Mall as part of an unauthorized pop-up car rally. Some of the attendees drove recklessly during the rally, revving engines and skidding tires, police said.
When police arrived on the scene, rally participants fled Mall property and continued south on Route 611, using both northbound and southbound lanes. Moments later, police received a call regarding an accident at Old Welsh Road and Fitzwatertown Road.
A vehicle had struck several parked and unattended vehicles before coming to rest in the middle of the 2900 block of Old Welsh Road. The backseat passenger had been ejected from the vehicle and the driver and front seat passenger had to be extricated by responding police and fire personnel.

All three of the occupants were transported via ambulance to Jefferson Abington Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Abington Police are investigating the incident to identify its organizers and participants.
“Unsafe events like this will not be tolerated and anyone identified will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the statement said.
