Abington police officer commended for apprehension of two suspects wanted for a shooting in Philly

Officer Adrian DeAngelo of the Abington Township Police Department was recently issued an Officer Commendation for his assistance in the apprehension of two males involved in a shooting in Philadelphia in March.

From the Department’s Facebook post:

On March 30, 2023, at 2:25 pm, Officer DeAngelo observed a vehicle traveling on Old Welsh Road in the area of Rockwell Road. A check of the registration for this vehicle determined that it was wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department for a shooting that had occurred in Philadelphia on March 26, 2023.

Officer DeAngelo, with the assistance of other Abington Officers were able to safely stop the vehicle and detain the operator and the sole passenger of the vehicle without incident. Officer DeAngelo established communication with the Philadelphia Detective in charge of the shooting investigation, leading to the determination that both male occupants of the vehicle were indeed involved in the shooting. Philadelphia law enforcement personnel promptly responded and took custody of both individuals as well as the vehicle.

A search of the suspect’s vehicle by Philadelphia Police resulted in the recovery of two firearms that were located inside a hidden compartment in the interior of the car; a semiautomatic handgun loaded with an extended magazine containing 23 rounds and a revolver loaded with six rounds. Notably, the semiautomatic handgun had been modified in a way that allowed it to operate as a fully automatic weapon. Officer DeAngelo’s vigilance led to the removal of two dangerous individuals from our community’s streets, along with the seizure of these two firearms. The execution of sound tactics by Officer DeAngelo and his fellow officers enabled the apprehension of the suspects without incident.

Thank you, for a job well done!
