FBI, Abington police monitoring potential safety concerns stemming from Israel/Hamas conflict

The Abington Township Police Department announced today that they are working with federal law enforcement to monitor potential safety concerns in the region which may stem from the situation in Israel.

According to a Public Service Announcement from the FBI (below), there have been several incidents in years past purportedly involving agents of terror as a result of hostile conflicts between Hamas and Israel.

“Anti-Semitism permeates many violent extremist ideologies and serves as a primary driver for attack by a diverse set of violent extremists who pose a persistent threat to Jewish communities and institutions in the United States and abroad,” the FBI said in the statement.

It continues: “Some violent extremists have used times of heightened tensions to incite violence against religious minorities, targeting both Jewish and Muslim Americans.”

From the Department’s Facebook post:

The situation in Israel has created a potential public safety concern in the US. The Abington Police Department is not aware of any specific threats to our area. We are working closely with our federal law enforcement partners to monitor the situation, and will be increasing patrols, especially at our religious facilities. The attached bulletin was authorized for public release by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security. We are asking for the public’s help to be vigilant and alert for suspicious activity. If you see something suspicious, please do not hesitate to call 9-1-1
