Abington police announce road closures due to storm, multiple homes still without power

The Abington Township Police Department announced the following road closures due to last night’s storm:

  • 1000 Block of Old Huntingdon Pike between Rhodes and Jane Road due to a tree down with wires.
  • Jenkintown Road between High School Road and Osceola Road due to a broken pole.
  • West Avenue between Township Line and Jenkintown Road due to a broken pole.
  • Mill Road between Susquehanna and Moredon Roads due to wires and tree down.
  • 700 Block of Seminole Road due to a tree down with wires.
  • Dead end of Susquehanna Road due to wires, trees and poles down.

In related news, Cheltenham Township officials announced this morning that its public works department has been working through the night with PECO to reopen roads from downed trees and wires.

“We are aware of existing outages; please 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 call 9-1-1 about power outages,” the township said in a post.

According to PECO’s outage map, four outages still exist in the Elkins Park area, three in the Wyncote area, four in Glenside, and five in the Rydal area, among others.

The majority of the individual outages show a restoration time of either 6:00pm or 11:00pm on Thursday, May 21. A handful of outages are pending assessment, according to the map.
