The Abington Township Police Department commended officers Michael Sweeney and Marquis Ray for rescuing a choking infant and discovering a stolen firearm.
During a traffic stop on February 13, an adult passenger alerted the officers that her infant was choking. Officer Ray found the four-month-old unresponsive and showing signs of an airway obstruction. He quickly administered back blows, after which the infant became responsive and began to cry.
The driver was detained after officer Sweeney discovered that he had a stolen firearm in his possession.
“This incident highlights the professionalism and commitment of our officers. Officer Sweeney’s attentiveness led to the recovery of a stolen firearm, while Officer Ray’s quick response and effective actions ensured the infant received immediate aid,” police said in a post. “Together, their efforts reflect the dedication our officers show in keeping the community safe and providing help when it’s needed most.”
