Mandy Leigh, an Abington resident, shared via Facebook that she and Abington police are searching for the identity of a woman who allegedly struck Leigh’s son while he was riding his bicycle to work on Friday, July 19.
According to the post, at approximately 3:45pm that day an “older woman (Caucasian with white hair) in a silver car” struck her son while using the right turn lane on Old York Road, as shown by the red arrow above.
Leigh claims the woman ran a red light, “rolled her window down, paused for a moment, shouted some rude comments/profanity” and then drove away.
The son was reportedly unharmed and a number of female witnesses came to his assistance. 911 was called and Abington police arrived on the scene promptly, the post said.
The original post reads:
PLEASE HELP! I am reaching out to our Abington community for help. My son was riding his bicycle to work this past Friday, 19 July. At approximately 3:45/50 he was crossing Old York Road into the Michael’s shopping center from Rockwell Ave in Abington.
HE WAS STRUCK BY A CAR, hit and run. An older woman (Caucasian with white hair) in a silver car used the right turn lane on Old York Road to go straight (where I have the red arrow) , striking my son on his right leg (where I have the “X” marked). She ran the red light while doing this. She rolled her window down, paused for a moment, shouted some rude comments/profanity , AND DROVE AWAY.
Please if you saw this happen or you know the driver, I ask you to do what is right…say something. There are dents from my son’s body on her front end driver side of the car.
If you are uncomfortable messaging me or speaking with me about it then I ask you to please call the Abington Township Police Dept., PA, there is a police report filed.
Thank you to our APD officers. Thank you to the women that saw it happen as they left a store and checked on my son. Thank you to whomever called 911, APD responded immediately.
Thankfully my son walked away from it
