An essay written by Maddie Krassner, a rising junior at Abington Senior High School, was selected as a winning entry for the third annual Art & Prose of Freedom Youth Contest, which was part of Montgomery County’s Juneteenth celebration in Norristown this week.

She received a $100 gift card and a certificate for her entry.

According to the district, Krassner also participated in the Juneteenth flag raising ceremony this morning and read an excerpt from her essay.
