Abington grad, Villanova basketball standout named Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Year

Eric Dixon, a 2019 graduate of Abington Senior High School and a forward on Villanova University’s men’s basketball team, was named on Monday as the 2023-24 Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Year.

The honor comes on the heels of Dixon’s recent announcement to enter into the NBA Draft.

Dixon led the Wildcats in scoring (16.6 points per game) and rebounding (6.5 rebounds per contest) in 34 games played for the Wildcats.

The 6’8″ redshirt senior recorded the following BIG EAST regular season highlights during the 2023-24 season:

Scored 25 points in a 69-67 loss to Creighton on March 9 … Paced VU with 22 points in a 75-47 win over Georgetown on Feb. 27 … Led the Wildcats with 22 points in a 72-62 victory over Butler on Feb. 20 … Established a new career high with eight assists in a 70-54 win over Georgetown on Feb. 16 … Paced Nova with 18 points in an 80-54 win over Seton Hall on Feb. 11 … Named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Feb. 5 … Scored 24 points in a Jan. 30 loss to No. 9 Marquette … Delivered a 28-point, six rebound effort on Jan. 27 at Butler … Led the Wildcats with 16 points and eight rebounds at St. John’s on Jan. 24 … Delivered 24 points, six rebounds and three steals in a 94-69 win over DePaul on Jan. 12 … His 32 points, including the decisive 3-pointer in overtime helped lift Nova past Creighton 68-66 on Dec. 20 .

The Willow Grove native scored 1,499 points over four years, averaging 16.6 points across 34 games in his redshirt senior season. He averaged 11.8 points and 5.7 rebounds over the course of his career.
