Dr. Karen Weaver, a 1976 graduate of Abington High School and former athletic director at Penn State Abington, has been featured in a new podcast episode with KYW NewsRadio.
Her discussion includes the arc of women’s sports from her time as an All-American field hockey player and a head coach at Ohio State, through her current status as a graduate faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Weaver is considered an expert on college athletics and women’s sports and has published over 130 articles for Forbes on the intersecting topics. She also hosts the podcast Trustees and Presidents: Managing Intercollegiate Athletics.
She played field hockey at Temple and Lock Haven universities and won a national championship as head coach at Salisbury University in 1986. She was named the USA Today Coach of the Year that year.
She received the Chancellor’s Award of Merit in 2012 from PSU Abington among other accomplishments and accolates.
Her new book, “College Presidents and College Athletics: Money, Power, Politics”, will be published by Johns Hopkins University Press in early 2025. The second edition of her textbook, Sport Finance: Where the Money Comes from and Where the Money Goes, will be published by Kendall Hunt Publishers in 2025.
