Abington grad feat. by Irish News for budding Gaelic Football career, following in family’s footsteps

Aidan Coyle (left above), a graduate of Abington Senior High School, was recently featured in Irish News in an article titled “Pomeroy here I come! Aidan Coyle’s journey from Philadelphia to the Plunketts”.

The article describes Coyle’s budding career with the Pomeroy Plunketts, a Gaelic Football club in Northern Ireland. His father and four of his uncles also played for Pomeroy during their athletic heydays, and 2023 has seen Aidan living in a van behind the family’s house “surrounded by uncles, aunts and cousins”.

The story also gives a snapshot into Aidan’s—who is now 25—past with sport, noting that he grew up playing baseball, soccer and basketball in Abington, and that he took to Gaelic Football “like a duck to water.” The article even gives Schwarzman Stadium a nod:

Out by himself on the gridiron pitch at Schwarzman Stadium, home of the Abington High School Ghosts, Aidan Coyle had a few soccer balls with him and he practised catching, soloing and kicking points through the goal posts on the American Football field in the Philadelphia suburbs.
