Students from Abington Friends School are organizing the annual “Kicks for Cancer” indoor soccer tournament.
Every year, teams of high school students, teachers, and community members come together in the Abington Friends School gym to play soccer to raise money and awareness for melanoma prevention.
The event was founded in 2010 after the passing of Ray Furlong, the father of Abington Friends student Christina Furlong. In honor of Ray’s devotion to Christina and his positive presence on the sidelines
of her soccer games, the varsity soccer team started Kicks for Cancer as an annual fundraiser to bring the community together for a good cause.
Since 2010, Kicks for Cancer has raised over $70,000, which has been donated to Fox Chase Cancer Center for melanoma research. The 2024 Kicks for Cancer tournament will be held on March 15, 2024.
Currently, Kicks for Cancer is seeking sponsorships and donations. Donations can come in the form of monetary contributions, food or items to support the event.
Tournament organizers are currently seeking commercial sponsors. Sponsor names and logos appear on each of over 100 players’ t-shirts. Business owners can find more information here.
Monetary donations can be made via the Kicks for Cancer donation page. Please contact kicksforcancer@abingtonfriends.net with questions or for further details about donating items for our raffle or concession stand.
