Eric Dixon, a 2019 graduate of Abington Senior High School, was featured by The Philadelphia Inquirer in an article titled “Eric Dixon, Villanova’s homegrown star, is college basketball’s leading scorer and could one day be a museum curator“.
Dixon, now a fifth-year forward at Villanova and one of the top players in the country, spent part of his summer in Europe with his girlfriend, during which they visited the Moco Museum in Barcelona. He recently toured the Philadelphia Museum of Art with museum curator Matthew Affron as “he’s slowly preparing for life after hoops.”
“He dreams of playing in the NBA, a dream he tried to realize last summer before returning to school for a fifth season, or at least having a successful professional career overseas. But what’s next?” The Inquirer wrote.
“It’s an abstract idea, but at the same time, the older I get, the more I realize there is more to life than just basketball,” he said.
From his Student Spotlight in November:
Given the chance to choose a topic for a round of trivia against his dad, Eric Dixon opted for Chinese imperialism. Because what teenager wouldn’t want to go deep on the People’s Republic’s cultural expansion beyond its boundaries while driving to a summer-league tournament? “My dad was a nerd,’’ Dixon admits. “Some of it rubbed off on me.’’
Rubbed so deep, in fact, that at one point Dixon could name virtually every U.S. state capitol and opted to major in history upon arriving at Villanova. Though his memory isn’t quite as sharp – it took him some time to remember that Montpelier is the capitol of Vermont – his passion for history has hardly abated. Dixon harbors dreams of one day working as a museum curator, envisioning himself not just studying history but connecting it through exhibits.
Last spring, Dixon took part in Portsmouth Invitational as he explored his options as part of the National Basketball Association Draft process. In May 2024, he said that he would remove his name from the NBA Draft and return to Villanova for his final season of eligibility in 2024-25.
The Willow Grove native led Villanova in scoring and rebounding in 2023-24. He will soon become the ninth player in Villanova history to score 2,000 points, The Inquirer said.
