Press Release:
Author Jay Nachman will discuss and sign copies of his book, Graham Parker’s Howlin’ Wind, at Vinyl Chickie in Glenside on Sunday, October 11, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“When I’ve spoken at other stores and events, it’s led to passionate discussions about favorite albums, bands, concerts and songs, various music scenes and what makes a song a hit and a musician a star,” said Nachman, a former Jenkintown resident.
Graham Parker’s Howlin’ Wind tells the story behind Parker’s acclaimed 1976 debut album, Howlin’ Wind, drawing on extensive interviews with Parker, members of his longtime backing band The Rumour and producer Nick Lowe. The book explores the musicians’ early lives, the British music scene of the 1960s and 1970s, and the creation of an album widely regarded as a landmark recording.
Released in 1976, Howlin’ Wind helped establish Parker as one of the most respected singer-songwriters of his generation.
“If not just Parker’s music, but pub rock, the roots of UK punk, and great stories about ’70s rock and roll are up your alley, I highly recommend this book,” The Big Takeover wrote in a review.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
Vinyl Chickie specializes in new and used vinyl, CDs, cassettes and music-related events. The Glenside shop serves as a gathering place for music lovers and collectors.
