Neighbor launches fundraiser for 24-year-old Abington resident who was severely injured in a vehicle-bicycle crash

24-year-old Colin Cassidy was severely injured in a vehicle-bicycle crash on Sunday, July 12 around 8:30pm in the 2800 block of Meyer Avenue in Abington Township.

Responding officers found Cassidy unconscious and bleeding from his head. He was transported to Abington Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for significant head trauma with significant swelling and bleeding.

Amy Cassidy, Colin’s mother, told 6ABC that the procedure went well and that he is now on a ventilator and heavily medicated as doctors monitor his brain.

“We’re hoping this will only take him a few months of recovery, is our biggest hope, and he can really return to the active, young guy that he was,” she said. “I’ve already lost one son. To know to go through that and have a grown man target someone else like that, at any age, but let alone someone helpless on a bike, I can’t even wrap my mind around it.”

In response to the tragedy, Kim Daly, Cassidy’s neighbor and friend, has launched a GoFundMe page to help cover medical bills and provide for future needs as he recovers.
