Alan Porter, a 1995 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School and professional umpire in Major League Baseball (MLB), was named the umpire crew chief for tonight’s All-Star Game at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.
According to ESPN.com, Porter, 48, made his major league debut in 2010, joined the major league staff in 2013 and became a crew chief in 2023. He was the right field umpire for the 2015 All-Star Game and worked the World Series in 2019, 2022 and 2025.
“When I walk on the field, and players see that I am umpiring the game, I want them to think that I am giving them everything that I can to them,” Porter said during an interview with LittleLeague.com. “We’re all going to make mistakes. I have them, managers have them, and the players do, too. It happens to everyone, no matter how good we are out there. But I like them to know that when I am out there, they are getting my very best.”
Porter attended Montgomery County Community College and California University of Pennsylvania, playing semi-pro ball in the summer. He later lived in Upper Moreland before moving to Horsham in 1990 during his eighth-grade year at Keith Valley Middle School, according to his biography on Grokipedia.com.
He currently resides in Warminster. More details about his umping career here.
