Mount Saint Joseph Academy of Flourtown takes 1st place at USRowing Youth National Championships

Mount Saint Joseph Academy’s Youth Second Varsity 8+ finished first at the USRowing Youth National Championships this weekend in Sarasota, Fla., facing off against the country’s most prestigious scholastic and club programs. The finish marks the Mount’s second-ever Youth National Championship and its first in 20 years, since the Lightweight 8+ won in 2006.

The championship boat included Kayleigh Costello ’26, Ella Kurek ’26, Addison Marques ’27, Aubrey Sheehan ’27, Megan Bell ’28, Addison Ross ’26, Christian Robinson ’28, Ava Kristel ’28, and Zoe Nguyen ’27.

Mount Crew sent several boats to the national stage. The Mount’s Under 16 8+ finished in a program-best 4th place, with the Youth 8+ finishing 23rd and the Youth 2V “B” entry finishing 26th.

The Youth National Championships wrapped up an incredible spring season for Mount Crew, with dozens of first-place finishes across their boats. Highlights included Scholastic National Championships for the Freshman 8+ and Junior Varsity 8+; Stotesbury Cup Championships for the Freshman 8+, Junior Varsity 8+, and Second 8+; Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships for the Youth 8+, Youth Second Varsity 8+, and Under 16 8+; and Philadelphia City Championships for the Varsity 8+, Junior Varsity 8+, Freshman 8+, and Novice 8+.

The team also brought home the Brigantine Trophy for Girls Sweep Points, amassed through their successes at the Manny Flick regattas this year, and took home the most medals of any girls program at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia and the Scholastic National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
