Abington grad named a Pennsylvania Laurel Queen candidate

Miss Madeline Krassner is representing Abington Senior High School and her community as a Pennsylvania Laurel Queen candidate.

The 84th annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival is being held June 13-21 in Wellsboro. 2025 Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen Alice Ravert will crown her successor on June 20.

Miss Krassner is the daughter of Kathryn Duffy and Aaron Krassner of Abington.

All four years of high school, Miss Krassner was on Distinguished Honor Roll and earned the President’s Service Award for Community Service each year. As a freshman, she founded the Lead with Love Club in honor of her 8th grade English teacher and, served as its president as a sophomore, junior and senior. The club’s focus is on building community and providing community services.

She was a four-year member of Key Club (freshman- board member; senior-president) and of the staff of “The Abingtonian,” the school newspaper (freshman- writer; sophomore and junior-arts and entertainment editor; senior-news and community editor). Miss Krassner served on the School Climate Committee, the Anti-Bullying Committee, and the No Place for Hate Committee and was a volunteer at the Abington Library and the Briar Bush Nature Center and in 2024 earned the nature center’s “Youth Volunteer of the Year Award.”

As a sophomore, junior and senior, she was a board member of her school’s Amnesty International chapter and member of Friends Against Drugs and Alcohol and Bird Club. Miss Krassner volunteered at Camp Intervention, a weeklong STEM camp at Copper Beach in Abington, her freshman, junior and senior years. As a freshman and sophomore, Miss Krassner volunteered at the Abington Senior High Library, was a member of the Theater Department’s Stage Crew and the Principal’s Advisory Committee. She served as a Student Government Executive Board member.

As a sophomore and junior, she was a mentor in the “Abington Leads by Example” program. As a junior and senior, Miss Krassner was a member of the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society (president as a senior); participated in Link Crew, where juniors and seniors serve as mentors to incoming freshmen; and was a member of the Quilting Club, and the Female Empowerment Club of America. She was also an Abington Ambassador, which is an internship focusing on social media and public relations for Abington Senior High School.

As a freshman, Miss Krassner played flute in the concert band and served on the Superintendent Committee. She was awarded the Abington Education Award and the PA Multimedia Tech Award and won first place in the PA Statistics Poster Competition. As a sophomore, Miss Krassner was a member of the Tutoring Club and a Girl Scout Delegate. She served on the Equity Student Ambassador Committee and the Code of Conduct Committee. 

She was the winner of the 2024 Art and Prose Freedom Contest at the Montgomery County Juneteenth Celebration. At the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference, Miss Krassner was awarded the Technology Student of the Year award. She also won 3rd place for Best Narrative Film at the Greenfield Film Festival. As a junior, Miss Krassner was a member of the National Art Honor Society. She was awarded the Abington Outstanding Junior English Student. As a senior, Miss Krassner was awarded Student of the Month in October. She was also a member of the Abington Senior High School Homecoming Court.

Her hobbies include reading and writing. She also enjoys video production and has created a variety of projects. This fall, Miss Krassner will be attending Temple University’s Honors College for high-achieving students with a double-major in English/Media & Communications. In the future, Miss Krassner plans to become an English teacher and writer.
