The family of Barton Seltmann, an 84-year-old man from Lower Pottsgrove Township who died in April 2024 from urosepsis, has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit again Montgomery County and PrimeCare Medical and Creative Health Services, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
According to the lawsuit, Seltmann was denied healthcare while in the county jail, and his death was the result of “an undiagnosed and untreated urinary tract infection” along with a neck fracture which took place after a fall in his cell.
Seltmann, a former West Pottsgrove Township police officer, was charged with murder and related crimes in November 2023 after allegedly killing his wife, during a dispute over the cost of their cat’s medical bills. He had been diagnosed with dementia, the symptoms of which, according to the family’s lawyer, increased after he was imprisoned.
In March 2024, his charges were dropped after he was deemed incompetent to stand trial.
