The Abington Township Police Department announced a traffic advisory for the first annual Abington Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, May 31.
Streets along the race route will be partially closed between 6:45am and 11:00am, police said. Volunteers will be stationed at key intersections to assist with traffic flow and ensure safe crossings.
Traffic will be restricted and delays should be expected in the areas listed below:
- Highland & Canterbury, Pleasant, Pinetree, Tulip, Harmony, Cross, Fortune, Jenkintown, Wharton, Woodland, N Horace , S Horace , Guernsey, Susquehanna, Adams, Tyler, Ghost
- Wharton & Parkdale, Edgley, Abington, Donaldson-Keswick
- Keswick & Easton, Sylvania, Geneva
- Geneva & Roberts-Cliveden, Roslyn
- Tyson & Geneva, Weldon, Jenkintown, Edgehill
- Edgehill & Ardsley, Edgecomb, Bruce, Custer, Carson, Bradfield, Easton, Trotter, Susquehanna, Rush, Guernsey, Kent, Tyson-Hillthorpe, Horace, Benezet, Woodland, Ridgeview, Wayn
- Edgehill & Keith
- Keith & Jericho, Wheatsheaf, Highland
“To help ensure safety and reduce congestion, we kindly ask residents to move vehicles off the race route in advance, if possible,” police said. “This will improve visibility and allow the event to proceed more smoothly. Please note: No vehicles will be fined or towed — this is simply a friendly request to help support a safe and smooth event.”
Race options include the Triathlon, Team Triathlon, and Aqua Bike and Duathlon. Each event begins at 7:00am.
The day will kick off with a 300-meter swim in Abington High School’s heated pool, followed by a 11.5-mile closed bike course through Abington, and finish with a 5K run across the Abington High School and Middle School Campuses.
