Mr. Eric Minkin, 1968 Germantown Academy grad, former Israeli national basketball team member, has passed away

Mr. Eric Minkin, a 1968 graduate and standout basketball player at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, passed away on Tuesday, March 25. He was 75 years old.

In four years as a varsity basketball starter, Minkin scored 1,358 points and led the Patriots to a 43-3 record his junior and season seasons. Those teams won two consecutive Inter-Ac championships with a combined 28-0 conference record.

A 1999 inductee into the Germantown Academy Hall of Fame, Minkin accepted an athletic scholarship from Davidson College and went on to be named to the All-Conference Team and the All-American Team for Jewish Student-Athletes.

Following his graduation from Davidson, he played professional basketball in Israel from 1972-79. His team won the league championship seven consecutive years, including the European Club championship in 1977. He also played for the Israeli national basketball team in the 1979 FIBA European Championship for Men.

Minkin lived and died in Sarasota, Florida, and worked for 22 years as a registered nurse in Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s cardiac acute unit.
