Cheltenham, Hatboro issue snow emergency, NWS updates forecast

Cheltenham Township and Hatboro Borough officials joined Abington and Lower Moreland townships in declaring a snow emergency beginning at 6:00am and 9:00am, respectively, on Sunday, January 19.

Cheltenham said vehicles may not be parked on the snow emergency routes below:

  • Ashbourne Rd. (Tookany Creek Pkwy to Washington Ln.)
  • Cedar Rd. (Church Rd. to Township Line Rd.)
  • Central Ave. (Ashbourne Rd. to Township Line Rd.)
  • Church Rd. (Falcon Dr. to Township Line Rd.
  • Easton Rd. (Cheltenham Ave. to Mt. Carmel Ave.)
  • Greenwood Ave. (Township Line Rd. to Limkiln Pk.)
  • Limekiln Pk. (Mt. Carmel Ave. to Easton Rd.)
  • Mt. Carmel Ave. (Limekiln Pk. to East Rd., west side)
  • New Second St. (Cheltenham Ave. to Township Line Rd.)
  • Oak Lane Rd. (Cheltenham Ave. to Ashbourne Rd.)
  • Tookany Creek Pkwy. (New Second St. to Cheltenham Ave.)
  • Township Line Rd. (Washington Ln. to Greenwood Ave.)
  • Washington Ln. (Township Line Rd. to Cheltenham Ave.)
  • York Rd. (Township Line Rd. to Cheltenham Ave.)

Hatboro’s post notes that “if you live on a snow emergency route, you must move your vehicles from the street.” The following streets are the designated snow emergency streets:


“We will lift the emergency once the roads are plowed,” the post said. Updates will be provided on multiple news platforms.

The National Weather Service updated their prediction for Sunday. Their briefing as of Saturday morning is below:

The forecast for greater Glenside now calls for “new snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.”

Showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 43. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest after midnight.

Sunday

A chance of snow before 10am, then a chance of snow and sleet between 10am and 11am, then snow after 11am. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 32. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Sunday Night

Snow likely, mainly before 7pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 15. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
