Cheltenham grad, retired Abington teacher receives lost-and-found Christmas gift honoring her late older brother, Raymond Salem

Cindy (Salem) Santee, a 1973 Cheltenham High School graduate and a retired teacher at Willow Hill Elementary in the Abington School District, received a Christmas card from former Cheltenham High School secretary Betsy Higgins today.

Attached to the Christmas card was a plaque (pictured above) which the Elkins Park Junior High School Class of 1960 had made to honor their late classmate, Raymond Salem, Cindy’s older brother, who passed away from osteosarcoma in June of 1960.

Betsy’s son, who works at the Elkins Park School, found the plaque in the school office.

Ray would have graduated with Cheltenham’s Class of 1963. According to local historian Chuck Langerman, he was an Eagle Scout and a budding baseball star.
