The Montco Elite football team is heading to the National Championships in Florida on Saturday, December 7.

Head coach Shawn Greene, dubbed “Coach Shizz” by his players, has taken two teams to the week-long event since taking over the program in 2019. The Wildcats will be out-of-state until December 15, the day after the championship game.

Greene said he started making the trip because the local league operates without a championship of its own.

“We’ve only lost one game in the last four years, so I asked our coaches if they wanted to take our guys to Florida to see what they can do. They were all for it. We put it together for the kids to make a long-lasting memory,” he said.

Montco Elite made it through their bracket and competed in the championship game in 2021 and 2022.

“It’s a great experience for the kids. We coach the kids up throughout the season and finish it off with an amazing trip,” Coach Greene said. “When they come back, they’re getting ready to go to the high school level. The Cheltenham players still talk about their trip.”
