Doris Conklin Mackenzie, former owner of The Copper Lantern gift and antique shop in Glenside, has passed away at 96

Doris Conklin Mackenzie, former co-owner of The Copper Lantern in Glenside, passed away on Thursday, September 12. She was 96 years old.

According to her obituary, Mrs. Mackenzie grew up in Wyncote during the depression and went on to graduate from Germantown Friends School in 1945 and Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ, where she earned an Associates Degree in early childhood education.

She met her husband, Joe, through The Wyncote Players in 1950 and settled on Plymouth Road in Glenside where they lived for over 50 years. In addition to co-owning the gift and antique shop, she also wrote a book of original poems illustrated by her grandchildren and helped organize a celebrity auction for the Cheltenham Historical Society.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, September 21 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 235 Summit Avenue in Fort Washington. Her memorial service will follow at 11:00am. Interment will be private.
