Noting that one of five Abington Township fire stations is located in her Glenside ward 13, candidate Ellen Thornton Staerk said among her priorities if elected as a new commissioner in the Nov. 7 election would be to work closely with the Weldon Fire Co. and its volunteer membership.
“We who live in ward 13, and adjoining areas, are truly fortunate to have the Weldon Company in our midst to provide close by fire safety and protection,” said Mrs. Staerk. “Right now, local fire companies are in need of new volunteers, and as a new commissioner I intend to effectively help recruit and retain volunteers for and work closely with Weldon, a highly respected, well-established company. It will be a key part of my caring, capable and committed approach as ward 13’s new commissioner.”
Pointing out that October is National Fire Prevention Month, Mrs. Staerk believes this is an ideal time for those who may be interested in serving as Weldon volunteers to contact company representatives.
Established more than 100 years ago, Weldon has Keith Maslin as its Fire chief. Johnathan Gerhard is Deputy Chief and Kevin Johnson is Assistant Chief.
The Weldon Fire House is located on Easton Rd., north of Keswick Ave. in the business heart of Glenside (phone 215-886-2373).
A former Abington police officer, Mrs. Staerk is a local businesswoman, longtime realtor and active community volunteer. She and her husband, Joseph, have been married 40 years, have four children, nine grandchildren and live on Sylvania Avenue in Glenside.
