Jenkintown Giant grocery store demolition process is officially underway

Demolition for the forthcoming Giant grocery store in Jenkintown Borough began on Tuesday, September 5.

The redevelopment project has the 50,000 square foot store being built from the ground up at the former site of Glanzmann Subaru and a set of commercial stores bordered by Old York Road, Washington Lane and Wyncote Lane.

The supermarket is expected to bring over 100 new job opportunities to the local community,

“They have all their approvals and they’ve started the demolition process,” Borough manager George Locke said. “They’re knocking down the old dealership, the former Joey Tate’s Restaurant and then the shopping center at 93 Old York.”

The project carries an estimated cost of around $13 million. Specific store amenities, as well as the grand opening, will be shared at a later date.
